People have been talking about the arrival of Sam’s Kitchen Deli in Frome for months – and at last it’s here. Owner Sam has top credentials, with experience at Soho House and At the Chapel in Bruton and of course, his award-winning Bath restaurant of the same name – so I couldn’t wait to try it out. It’s open from 8am for breakfast but I’m always in the gym first thing *coughs*, so a friend and I decided on lunch…

Muddy eats: Salt & Malt, Chew Valley Lake

A former tearoom enjoys the golden (crisp, lightly battered) touch of Somerset’s Super Chef Josh Eggleton to become the Salt & Malt fish cafe, restaurant and tearoom. It’s in a fab location overlooking the Chew Valley Lake  – actually the largest artificial reservoir in the west country – in north Somerset.

Josh Eggleton (of Pony & Trap fame) and his team have turned the old tearoom into a light, airy dining room.

All aboard for summery salads, irresistible cakes – and pizza

The Railway Carriage Café (now with a brand new – old – big, green double-decker bus around the back) is a quirky, eccentric place to come and enjoy a delicious breakfast, lunch, coffee and cake or, on a Thursday and Friday evening, a wood-fired pizza.  The food’s summery, salady, with a Middle Eastern/Mediterranean feel. It’s brilliant for veggies although meat eaters aren’t forgotten – and the cakes are to die for.

Supercool local interiors stuff !

Wonderful though it is living in these ‘ere parts, you don’t get many shops covering the cooler end of contemporary homeware and interiors, so the moment I heard about CARO, I rushed over to Bruton to have a mooch around.

CARO is a lifestyle store and coffeehouse which sells an eclectic and affordable selection of homeware, stationery, skincare, textiles, kids’ stuff, cool magazines and food (and more) from around the world.
