MUDDY MEETS: TOYAH WILLCOX
Muddy Stilettos has been hanging out with the stars (excuse me while I douse myself in a Guinness World Record sized pinch of salt) - and this particular one is performing in Bridgwater this month.
Muddy Stilettos has been hanging out with the stars (excuse me while I douse myself in a Guinness World Record sized pinch of salt). Anyone who was old enough to take ‘O’ levels instead of GSCEs, chainsmoke multi-coloured ciggies with gold tips or borrow their brother’s Chopper bike will remember Toyah Willcox– the dyed-to-a-cinder hair, the multi-coloured make up, and the impossibly catchy It’s a Mystery.
These days she lives in Pershore (just south of Worcester, geography meisters). Aside from trilling and acting for her living, the Eighties pocket rocket also loves to read, make her own jewellery (she made that masterpiece around her neck, above) and just adores talking to Muddy Stilettos…
Shoulder pads or leg warmers?
Shoulder pads, definitely. I’m relatively short so I find you can trick people into thinking you’re taller if you have the right kind of shoulder pads.
Live or Studio?
Argh, I can’t decide. I absolutely love writing and recording in the studio, but then I get to go out to make it all work in front of an audience, so I refuse to choose!
Brogues or Stilettos?
Stilettos. I’m too short for big wedgy flat shoes.
Eighties music or up to date?
I’m gonna have to say Eighties music but I do love the new stuff that’s coming through, I’m not stuck in the Eighties myself, if you know what I mean.
Favourite Eighties act?
I love Trevor Horn – he was so iconic in everything he did and we all wanted to work with him.
Youth or experience?
Experience. Oh god. One hundred percent.
Straight hair or perm?
Straight. You’ll never see me with a perm
Best blog on the planet?
Are you kidding me? Muddy Stilettos of course.
You can see Toyah Willcox in action on Saturday 10 September at Music in the Meadow, Secret World Animal Rescue, New Farm Road, East Huntspill, Highbridge TA9 3PZ.
