The Christmas parties, carol services and pantos are yet to come but hey, November is already seeing the start of the festive fairs and markets around Somerset and beyond. Ready to shop? Let’s go…

Frome Independent Christmas Market, around Frome, Sun 1 Dec

The Christmas version of the famed monthly market. Designers, makers, craftspeople and artists of all kinds. Vintage clothing and collectibles. Delicious food. Live music. Santa. Not to be missed.

Bath Christmas Market, around the Abbey and beyond, until Sun 15 Dec

It’s been voted Number 1 UK Christmas market, with 150 twinkling chalets filled with stuff to buy (mostly from the South West), stuff to stuff yourself with, music and people roaming around on stilts.  If this is the kind of thing you like, you’ll love it.

Clevedon Sunday Market, around Clevedon, Sun 1 Dec

Christmas edition of the monthly food, drinks and designer-maker market on the hill and by the sea in Clevedon, between the seafront, Hill Road and Alexandra Road.  10am – 2pm.

The Harbourside Christmas Market, Bristol, every weekend until Sun 22 Dec

A 50-stall makers market, showcasing the city’s most creative small businesses, including handcrafted wallets, artworks, infused gins and artisan chocolates and more. World food (and Somerset cider) and live music. All set against the atmospheric harbour backdrop.

Castle Farm Christmas Market, Midford, Tues 3 Dec

Browse the gifts from indy sellers, sample the mulled wine, hot soup and curry to the sounds of The Motherpluckers’ ukuleles. 6pm –9pm.

A festive exhibition with gifty stuff for sale, from 20th century and contemporary art to handpicked and unique ceramics and jewellery. Prices start from £10.

Exeter Christmas Market, Cathedral Green, until Thurs 19 Dec

Treat yourself to a handmade necklace or grab a bag of fudge for the perfect stocking filler and some Bavarian beer and bratwurst. A quality, totally tat-free zone, it’s said.

Christmas at St Nicholas, St Nicholas Markets, Bristol, until Tues 24 Dec

Quirky stalls, street food and historic architecture in Corn Street in the heart of the old city (there’s been a market here since 1743). Indoor market every day from now; outdoor markets with festive stalls from Weds 11 Dec.

Made in Bristol Gift Fair, Colston Hall, Bristol, Sat 30 Nov & Sun 1 Dec; Sat 7 & Sun 8 Dec

Hand crafted gifts from Bristol’s designer-makers, from carpenters and weavers, leather makers and jewellers, to printmakers and ceramicists.

Street food and handmade gifts from 60 indy sellers. Very handily, the vast Charlotte Street car park is just two minutes’ walk away.

Bournemouth Christmas Market, until Sun 1 Jan 2020

All things Alpine, from the Alpine market to the two-storey Alpine Lodge. Just no Alps. The Christmas Tree Wonderland free festival trail with 100 glittering trees and illuminations including a walk-through giant tree and ice-skating sounds good though.

Southbank Centre Winter Market, London, until Sun 5 Jan

Up in London Town ? Festive produce, artisan made and other goodies from the Nordic-themed chalets, with an Applebee’s pop-up restaurant and alpine-style lodge under the bridge.

Hyde Park Winter Wonderland, London, Thurs 21 Nov –  Sun 5 Jan

The big one up in the Smoke. Along with 100 wooden chalets there’ll be *deep breath* ice skating, ice bars and sculpting workshops, rides, Santa Land, shows, boozy Bavarian Village and, new for 2019, A Christmas Carol, 70m lit-up ferris wheel, Paddington and Mr Men shows for children. It’s free to enter and get in on the festive atmos, but you’ll have to pay for the attractions.
