Alexandra May Jewellery

Muddy says: Big, bold and beautiful designer costume jewellery in Bath – eat your heart out Frida Kahlo

Probably not the place to come if you’re looking for a pair of boring silver studs. But if you want to wow with a pair of dramatic earrings that could’ve belonged to Frida Kahlo, be the coolest chick at a cocktail party with a glittering statement ring or wear a unique necklace or bracelet hand-crafted by the UK and Europe’s most acclaimed jewellery designers, step this way…

Ever since she was a small child growing up in Venezuela, Alexandra May has loved, lived and breathed jewellery. After studying at the London College of Fashion and working as a fashion stylist for magazines, she decided to set up her own jewellery shop, bringing together a stunning collection of designer costume jewellery.

Fast forward 20 years and the dark walls in her gorgeous shop on the corner of arty St Margaret’s Buildings in Bath are the perfect foil for the cases and displays of spectacular earrings, necklaces, bracelets, broaches, pins and rings.

We’re talking limited editions and handmade pieces by the likes of Parisian couple Jean-Louis and Claudine Blin, who’ve created for Thierry Mugler, Guy Laroche and the cabaret dancers of the Moulin Rouge. Modern vintage from Madrid-based Anton Heunis. Huge clip-on earrings by king of contemporary costume fashion jewellery, Philippe Ferrandis. Super twinkly marcasite jewellery from Luke Stockley and Jonathan Lynne. Jewellery that tells a story by Simon Harrison. Think silver, gold, semi-precious and reclaimed vintage stones, pearls, Swarovski crystal, embossed metals, bakelite, beaded, embroidered…

I could go on all day but you’ve got to see this stuff.  Head over to Bath, where Alexandra will help you find a piece that you will fall in love with and treasure forever. Or have a look and buy online here.  Her kaleidoscopic photos of the jewellery are works of art in themselves.
