Bailey Hill Bookshop
Muddy says: one of the best bookshops in Somerset, with a brilliant range of books for all ages and interests, friendly knowledgeable booksellers – and you can even bring your dog
Here at Muddy Stilettos, we love independent bookshops. Brilliant places to browse and buy – you never know what you’re going to discover – and they’re run by incredibly knowledgeable people who are passionate about what they do. We think that Bailey Hill Bookshop in the little market town of Castle Cary is one of the best.
Claire, Alex and Sheila still get excited opening boxes of new books when they arrive in the shop. And their aim? To provide the perfect match between book and customer.
On their shelves you’ll find the very best books from independent, national and international publishing houses on every imaginable topic, from local and natural history (and walking guides and maps) to the latest contemporary and crime fiction and children’s books for all ages. Lots of books on leisure interests like gardening, cycling, swimming (including wild!), cricket and cookery. If you’re looking for a special present, check out their beautiful gift editions – and wrapping paper and cards to go with. If you can’t find what you’re looking for, they can usually get it in for you the very next day.
There’s a brightly painted children’s play area under the stairs with toys, so you can browse in peace. Even (well-behaved) dogs are welcome.
They run interesting events throughout the year – we’ll keep you posted here on Muddy Stilettos.
Opening hours are Mon–Fri 9.30am–5.30pm and Sat 9.30am–5pm.
