Muddy says: designer-maker Dan Thomas takes his inspiration from found wood to create beautiful one-off pieces of furniture and other stuff for the home, with a traditional yet quirky feel
Inspired by the shape and size of found wood, Dan Thomas creates beautiful, unique free-standing furniture and decorative items for the home. Driftwood washed up on the beach becomes a garden bench. A slice of tree trunk is turned into a stunning side table. A hollowed out log is transformed into a luminous lamp that could have arrived in your house via Bilbo Baggin’s hobbit hole. No two pieces are alike.
Working from a studio in a converted stable in Axbridge, Dan reveals and enhances the natural beauty of reclaimed wood – saved from a bonfire, discovered in a recycling yard or a fallen tree – and combines it with metal to produce work that manages to be both traditional and quirky at the same time. You can buy finished tables, benches, lamps, wine racks, door stops…or commission something new.
Dan also designs and makes built-in furniture and can even turn your own sketch or idea into the perfect piece for your place.
And the name Wuffles? Terry Pratchett fans will know it’s a certain wire-haired terrier…
