Ice Ice baby!
Ice skating at the UK's largest covered ice rink – which just happens to be in Weston-super-mare
Team Muddy Somerset’s Annie got onto the ice at the UK’s largest covered ice skating rink, IceScape @ Tropicana in Weston-Super-Mare…
I booked a 45-minute session at 5pm last night for myself and two teenagers and we found ourselves on a massive skating rink made of real ice.
A great antidote to shopping, it really got us in the mood for Christmas. Plenty of room for beginners and lots of friendly staff on hand for advice and tips – it wasn’t long before we unleashed our blades of glory. Plastic seal ice buggies are available for small children to sit in which can also be used as skating aids for nervous parents or grandparents. They also have quiet sessions if you want to skate in pure silence – come Boxing Day, that idea definitely appeals.
Hot chocolates afterwards in the Lodge Bar with furry-covered seating. But you can have booze if you prefer. Live music some evenings.
Sizzling hot dogs and mountainous burgers at the Bare Grills Smokehouse if you fancy something more substantial.
Littlies will love Santa’s Grotto – I did take a peak and definitely caught a glimpse of a beard.
Fantastic family fun whatever the weather. Prices (include skate hire): Adult £9.50 (age 13 +); £30 family of 4 (2 adults, 2 children or 1 adult, 3 children); £7.50 child (age 12 and under)
Open from now until Sun Jan 6 (closed on Christmas Day). Opening times vary according to date. Book online and get three hours’ free parking along the Marine Front right outside.
