The Big House Company
Muddy says: Don’t invite guests to a hotel for a special party, celebration or wedding, invite them to your own country house!
The Big House Company has gathered together a selection of large – luxury – holiday houses, each sleeping more than 14 guests, with games rooms, home cinemas, hot tubs, swimming pools, tennis courts, acres of grounds and more for your party, holiday, wedding or other special occasion.
The very first big house for rent came about when Ben and Victoria Fox inherited and renovated Tone Dale House, a large country house in Wellington built in 1801 for cloth-maker Thomas Fox (Fox Brothers & Co made suits for the likes of Churchill and Cary Grant and is still in operation).
Today, their handpicked houses – well, mostly mansions really – range from an Austrian castle to a Norfolk barn with assorted manor houses in Somerset, Devon, the Cotswolds and Sussex in between. There’s even a villa in Marbella.
They’ll organise every element of your stay, from filling your larder to a full chef service. They can set up stuff for you to do (maybe a spot of archery or off-roading?) or not do (lie back and enjoy that massage).
Weddings are a speciality. Not only are their houses and grounds pretty idyllic, but they can organise everything too, from food and fizz to tipis and tents, under the guidance of partner Richard Insall, who ran weddings and events at Richard Branson’s famous Roof Gardens in London.
