Kimbers’ Farm Shop

Muddy says: Family-run farm shop selling spectacular, ethically reared meat and pretty much everything else you need to go with it

There have been Kimbers farming here in the Blackmore Vale, near Wincanton, for the past 300 years. The current incumbents, Paul and Ruth, have been rearing cattle and livestock here since 1973, with eight assorted sons, daughters and partners all involved with the running of the farm, farm shop and farmers’ markets.

Responsible, traditional farmers with animal welfare at the heart of the farm, they feed their animals on homegrown crops and hay and only use fertilisers, herbicides and medications when necessary.

As you might expect, the farm shop is big on top quality meat, ethically reared, expertly butchered. Grass fed beef, Gloucester Old Spot Pork, lamb, free range chicken and duck, geese, game, veal, offal – even goat – as well as sausages, burgers, charcuterie and chorizo.

‘Course you can buy all of this individually but we love their range of meat and meal boxes. Set yourself up for the entire weekend with a box of rashers of bacon, black pudding, sausages, rump steaks and a roasting joint. For Sunday lunch, The Roast With The Most box contains a leg of lamb, all the veg to go with, Yorkshire puds, gravy, mint jelly or cranberry sauce.  Or for any night of the week, everything you need for a Curry Night In (with the booze too).

Not just meat: loads of British and West Country dairy and store cupboard groceries: delicious British cheeses, unpasturised milk and cream, condiments, preserves, biscuits and drinks. Send over the Girl’s Night In hamper – blackcurrant wine, brazil and choc chip biscuits, hot choc and an aromatic bath/shower gel – pronto!

Antiques, upcycled, fabrics, glass, kids’ clothes, candles, garden troughs, quirky lamps and plants from 24 different traders in the The Somerset Trading Barn.

A brand new cafe has just opened, with woodburner, sofas and as much great coffee and cake as you can handle.

If you can’t get to the shop, you can buy foods online or find find them at farmers’ markets every month: 1st Saturday at Town Hall, Shaftesbury 9am – 1pm and every Saturday at Green Park Station in Bath, 8.30am – 1.30pm.
