New Farm Restaurant, Over Stratton

Muddy says: Housed in an old farm building, this rustic restaurant has farm stuff on the walls and very good nosh on the tables.

Converted old hamstone farm building with signs, a wooden porch in somerset village

You’ll get a crash course in farming of yesteryear from the old farm implements and photos on the walls while you enjoy Jane Bond’s delicious, award-winning food at the New Farm Restaurant in the picture postcard village of Over Stratton in south Somerset, just off the A303 and easily reachable from Yeovil and Taunton.

The old hamstone building used to be a working farm run by Jane’s family since the late 1880s (hence the farm vibe) until she and husband Crispin converted it into a rustic style restaurant with three country-style guest rooms. Jane uses all locally produced and sourced ingredients in her cooking, which has won her numerous Taste of the West Awards. Crispin makes the bread and helps out sister Sue front of house.

Open for dinner from Wednesdays to Saturdays, with monthly Ladies’ Lunches (two courses and as many puddings as you like – nice!) on the second Wednesday of every month and speciality nights with food themed from around the world on the first Thursday. The first floor is perfect for parties and larger groups. They’ll cater for your own event too.
