The Old Crown Inn, Kelston
Muddy says: A 400-year-old pub within striking distance of Bath with award-winning food (and garden) and walks into the Cotswold hills on the doorstep – bring your dog
At just a few miles outside Bath, The Old Crown in the village of Kelston, is the perfect antidote to the city.
Dating back to the 1600s, the pub combines trad features – age-worn flagstones, whitewashed stone walls, beams, leather club chairs – with top notch food and drink, an award-winning garden with a cosy lodge and outdoor bar.
Nosh on pub classics and more, cooked up in the open kitchen (fresh, local ingredients, natch). Carnivores, pescatarians, veggies, vegans, gluten-free and kids will all find grub they love. Their food took them to the finals of the Crumb 2018 awards.
Wine, beers and ales from around the world and homemade cider from their own apples.
The huge garden (Best Pub in Bath in Bloom 2018 and South West in Bloom 2018 Gold) has an outdoor bar, heated and covered seating, a BBQ plus a garden lodge with an open log fire, rugs, mulled wine and – rubgy lovers – Six Nations screenings.
Ideal for pub/walk combos with your dog (they’re welcome in the pub), with loads of footpaths criss-crossing the village including the Kelston Roundhill walk, part of the Cotswold Way, which goes up to a prehistoric barrow with breathtaking views.
Prosecco Tuesdays (half price fizz), Fish and chip Fridays, monthly hog roasts. Weddings and parties all year round.
