Trading Post Farm Shop
Muddy says: A wholefoods market, greengrocer, deli and general store rolled into one with the emphasis on local, fresh and organic
Located in what was once an old petrol station and set on a working organic farm, the Trading Post Farm Shop in Lopenhead, just a minute or two off the A303 near South Petherton, is a wholefoods market, greengrocer, deli and general store all in one. We’re talking organic, local, fresh, delicious. Come here for essentials; come here for treats.
Voted Best Farm Shop in Somerset in the Muddy Stiletto Awards 2018, Kate and Andy Forbes are passionate about supporting local food and drink producers, with over 100 suppliers from around the West Country. You can expect:
Fresh bread six days a week Monday to Saturday, spelt loaves from Common Loaf Bakery on Tuesday and artisan loaves from Bower Bakery on Thursday and Saturday. Homemade cakes; pies, pasties, quiches and scotch eggs – with gluten-free options.
Farm-grown organic vegetables (remember, they’re on a farm).
Free range and organic meat; locally caught and smoked fish delivered weekly; and local frozen ready meals.
West country cheeses – including sheep, goat and vegan – plus ice creams and sorbets.
Locally crafted ales, ciders, wines and spirits – organic, vegan, sulphite and gluten free.
Jams, marmalades, chutneys and anti pasti; all sorts of whole foods – dried fruit, nuts, seeds, cereals, grains and superfoods – as well as truffles, fudge and chocs.
Sugar-free, dairy-free and gluten free always available.
They also stock organic, eco-friendly, locally made toiletries, skincare, probiotics and natural herbal supplements; household cleaning stuff; house plants and cut flowers (which they’ll make up into a bouquet while you wait); locally made gifts, greetings cards and books.
Very handily, the fabulous Railway Carriage Cafe (actually, a railway carriage and a double decker bus with an outdoor pizza oven) – a separate business – is right next door.
The Trading Post Farm Shop is open seven days a week, Mon to Sat 8.30am–6pm; Sun 10am-2pm. Plenty of free parking right outside.
