This week

Thoroughly Modern Millie, Theatre Royal, Tue 29 May – Sat 2 June

Photo: Alistair Muir

Musicals might be your idea of hell but if you like them, this looks to a be a corker.  Soap star Hayley Tamaddon plays the throughly modern miss who comes to 1920s New York to seek her fortune and falls in love with a penniless charmer.

Royal Bath & West Show, Bath & West Showground, Shepton Mallet, Weds 30 May–Sat 2 June

All sorts of farming and agriculture-related stuff, including super speedy sheep shearing, showjumping, the British Cheese and British Cider comps, live music, 4x4s and more farm animals in their prime than you can shake a stick at.  It’s not all bucolic: there’s a BMX bike battle.

The Frome Independent and the Clevedon Sunday market, Sun 3 June

First Sunday of the month? Take your pick from two indy markets with designer-maker stuff, vintage, artisan food and drink up in north Somerset or down in the east.

Annual International Exhibition and Sale of Miniature Art, The Hilliard Society of Miniaturists, The Town Hall, Wells, Sat 2 – Sat 9 June (closed Sun 3)

Very fitting: the smallest city in England is where you’ll find one of the largest exhibitions of miniature paintings and sculptures in the UK.
