Josephsohn/Märkli: a conjunction, Hauser & Wirth, Bruton, until 1 Jan 2018
Have a wander around the gallery’s new show with works by late Swiss sculptor Josephsohn (1920 – 2012) and the architectural drawings of his long-time friend, Swiss architect Peter Märkli (born 1953). Rita Ackermann’s ‘Turning Air Blue’s in a separate exhibition. If this isn’t your cup of tea, there’s always the very good coffee (and lunch) in the Roth Bar & Grill and a small shop with gorgeous cards and stuff.

The world famous circus sets up the Big Top on Durdham Downs this month. Their latest show, Gostinitsa, combines the best of the circus art forms – trapeze, tightrope, unicyclists, clowns, you name it – with the Art Deco glitz and glamour of the Golden Age of Hollywood. Read our review.

Ground-breaking theatre here: the audience wears virtual reality headsets for this supernatural, coming of age thriller set on the Great Barrier Reef. The action shifts from Meera, an adult marine biologist in the present day, back to a time when her frogman father helped look for one of her missing friends. One of the hit at the Edinburgh Festival. For kids 12+.

Power of the people, revenge, conflict. Shakespeare’s tragedy about the rise and fall of legendary Roman leader Caius Marcius Coriolanus, big time war hero turned failed politician and utterer of some of Shakespeare’s worst insults (just consulted my Cole’s Notes). This production filmed live at Stratford on Avon stars Sope Dirisu and Haydn Gwyne (Drop the Dead Donkey). Find a cinema.

Howard Hodgkin : India on Paper, Victoria Art Gallery, Bath, Sat 14 Oct–Sun 7 Jan 2018
Hodgkin visited India almost every year from 1964 until his death earlier this year, producing a mass of work – gouache paintings, editioned prints and hand-coloured impressions – much of it on show here.
Grayson Perry: The Most Popular Art Exhibition Ever! Arnolfini, Bristol, Weds 27 Sept–Sun 24 Dec
Did you see Channel 4’s programme about Grayson Perry touring the UK searching for inspiration to create his Leave and Remain pots? Well, you can see the pots themselves now. The pots, along with 24 other artworks dealing with masculinity, class, politics, sex religion, popularity and art, Brexit and ‘Divided Britain’, are all on display in a major exhibition transferring from the Serpentine Gallery. There’s a programme of events to go with.
