This week

MON 7 – SUN 13 JAN 2019

THEATRE: Crimes on the Nile, Ustinov Studio, Bath, Tues 8 – Sat 26 Jan

Agatha Christie-inspired comedy whodunnit with lascivious lawyers, fastidious physicians, feuding femme fatales and, bien sûr, a Belgian detective.

THEATRE: Motown the Musical, Hippodrome, Bristol, Thurs 10 Jan – Sat 2 Feb

Photo Tristram Kenton

Stop! In the Name of Love, I Heard it though the Grapevine that Berry Gordy started the legendary record label with just $800 borrowed from his family. Over 50 Motown tracks, live orchestra.  I’ll be There.

FOOD: Swan supper evenings, WWT Slimbridge, Wetland Centre, Slimbridge, Gloucs, Fri 11 & Sat 12 Jan

Not eating ’em (unless you’re Henry VIII) but watching – hundreds of wild swans newly migrated in, on a floodlit lake – and then tucking into a two-course meal at the Kingfisher Kitchen.

WELLBEING: Free Yoga and Breathwork sessions, Boudavida, Bath, Fri 11 Jan

FREE two-hour ashtanga yoga and transformational breathwork class, teaching your body-mind new ways to respond to negative stressors. 11 am–1pm at Boudavida’s shop in Milsom Place (where you can also pick up a fab selection of yoga and other active wear).

The Scarlet Pimpernel, the egg, Bath, until Sun 13 Jan

An OTT masked hero helps French poodles (and their owners) escape the French Revolution. Marguerite’s got a foppish husband, Sir Percy. Could there be a connection?  From the same team behind last year’s Little Mermaid (Best Show for Children and Young People at the UK Theatre Awards).

A Christmas Carol, Bristol Old Vic, Bristol, until Sun 13 Jan

Watch as a hard-hearted skinflint becomes the living embodiment of the spirit of Christmas. Sure to warm your cockles,  in the inimitable Bristol Old Vic style.

The Borrowers, Tobacco Factory Theatres, Bristol, until Sun 20 Jan

Photo Joe Roberts

Arrietty and her family of Borrowers live below the floorboards of a large house in Bristol. Their world is turned upside down by the arrival of a family of Human Beans.

Snow Mouse, the egg, Bath, until Sun 20 Jan

A child discovers a sleeping mouse buried in the snow and they have wonderful adventures together. Awwh. Cute face emoiji. Ages 6 months – 4 years.

Peter Pan,  Theatre Royal Bath, until Sun 13 Jan

Photo Freia Turland

Paul Nicholas (East Enders, Just Good Friends, The Real Marigold Hotel) is Hook in a production with flying and CGI special effects as well as all the usual trad panto elements.

Oedipuss in Boots, The Wardrobe Theatre, The Old Market Assembly, Bristol,  until Sun 20 Jan

Photo Jack Offord

The royal kitten Oedipuss is cursed with the prophecy of killing his father and marrying his mother. Anti-Christmas comedy from fringe theatre and arts hub in the centre of the city, puts the romp in anthropomorphism.
