Welsh National Opera, Bristol Hippodrome, Weds 15 – Sat 18 Nov
A couple of Russian-themed operas to celebrate the centenary of the Russian Revolution (how else will you be marking the occasion?) – Eugene Onegin and From the House of the Dead. They’re throwing in a bit of old Vienna, Die Fledermaus, too.
Shazia Mirza: With Love from St Tropez, Curzon Cinema & Arts, Clevedon, Fri 17 Nov
Award-winning stand up’s latest tour takes in Ankara, Zurich, San Francisco …and Clevedon (well impressed, you guys at the Curzon!). Her new show deals with lies, lies and more lies – the truth is so 1980s, right?
Bath on Ice, Royal Victoria Park, Bath, Fri 17 Nov – Tues 2 Jan
Outdoor ice skating – and glow in the dark mini golf – in the centre of Bath. Take the weight off your skates in the Moguls Alpine bar and cafe and scoff pizzas and fries (not chips, you notice).
NT Stourhead Gardens, Stourton, every day
These National Trust gardens are at their absolute best in Autumn. I mean, just look at this stunning pic taken by ace photographer Judith White. Take the circular walk around the huge lake and spot the mini Parthenon, Greek temple, grotto and this Gothic cottage which is open – weather permitting – at weekends, with a roaring fire, hot drinks and cakes and in December, mulled cider and wine. At the entrance to the gardens, there’s an ice cream parlour and The Spread Eagle pub.
