What’s on this week
The Kite Runner, the egg, Bath, Mon 6–Sat 11 Nov
Loved the book? Now see the show, on a major UK tour after two seasons in the West End. A faithful adaptation of the story of two Afghan boys in a divided country on the verge of war – with live Afghan tabla drumming.
The Tin Drum, Bristol Old Vic, Tues 7–Sat 18 Nov
On Oskar’s third birthday, he rails against the adult world and decides to remain a child forever. Based on Günter Grass’ surreal post-war masterpiece, this Kneehigh production tells the story of love, war and fizz powder in Germany as startling musical satire: part Baroque opera, part psychedelic white-out and part epic poem. Wow.
Simon Amstell: What it this? Komedia, Bath, Weds 8 Nov
Well, he’s changed a bit since Popworld, hasn’t he?! Following a bunch of sold-out international tours, this is the fifth stand-up show in the UK for the mischievous host of Never Mind the Buzzcocks. If you’re not familiar with his work, ‘What is This?’ promises to be a deeply personal, funny exploration of beauty, intimacy, freedom, sex and love.
In conversation … Kilver Court, Shepton Mallet, Thurs 9 Nov
This is where Monty Saul of Kilver Court Designer Village and an ex-Dior model, doncha know, has a chin wag with a top name from the fashion world. You get to listen in – and everyone has a coffee and light breakfast (I’m thinking croissants?). This month Monty meets Chloe Lonsdale, Creative Director of of M.i.h Jeans, the London girl’s denim brand. 10am–11am, free but you’ll need to RSVP: firstname.lastname@example.org
