Fab 5 things to do in Paris – you could be going there…on us!
Mes petits choux, le nouvelle competition de Stilettos Boueux est ici – et il est un corker! (you didn’t know I spoke Franglais?).
I’ve got a pair of return airline tickets to Paris to give away to one lucky reader – sacre bleu! If you win, you and your partner, friend, mum (OK, me, if you insist) will be flying with bmi regional out of Bristol airport over to Paris, on the dates of your choice between the end of November and the 25 March 2017 (subject to availability). Here’s what you could be doing…
# 1 Feasting, and feasting your eyes on this The Eiffel Tower is at it’s most breathtaking at night when every girder is lit up with sparkling lights. But don’t join the queueing throngs waiting to ascend. Book a table at Les Ombres, the glass-roofed restaurant on top of the nearby Musée du Quai Branly, and enjoy French classic cuisine while you admire the 360° panoramic views of the city and close-ups of the Eiffel Tower.
#2 Window licking in the covered passages
Faire du lèche-vitrines or ‘window-licking’, that’s what the French call window shopping. But I’m guessing you might be buying in the chic boutiques and quirky shops in the belle époque arcades, nouveau galeries and ancient courtyards of the city’s historic covered passages. The Galerie Vivienne, Passage du Grand Cerf and Passage Jouffrey are amongst the best.
#3 Soaking up some kulcha
Forget the Mona Lisa at the Louvre (it’s the size of a postage stamp and a million other people will be standing in front of you). Instead, check out the newest addition to the Parisien skyline, Frank Gehry’s incredible Fondation Louis Vuitton (yep, the bag people). It houses the private art collection of the LVMH CEO but also has superb temporary exhibitions, like the Russian Shchukin Collection, 130 masterpieces by the likes of Picasso, Renoir and Van Gogh, on now until 20 February 2017.
#4 Sipping a coffee in the ‘real’ Paris
Leave the Left Bank to the tourists and head to the Right, to the area around the Canal St Martin in the 10th arrondissement. This once derelict area, now filled with hip shops and cafes, is where the cool Parisiens hang out. So find a seat at a pavement cafe, sip a café crème, vin chaud or chocolat and absorb the atmos.
#5 Being dazzled by St Chappelle
Have your breath taken away by the kaleidoscopic stained glass windows of the Sainte Chappelle . The Chapel, just beside the Palais de Justice on the island of the Île de la Cité, was built to hold Christian relics including Christ’s crown of thorns, ‘case you’re interested.
So, the winner will be flying out of Bristol aiport with bmi regional. bmi runs up to two flights daily from Sunday to Friday out of Bristol to Paris and you can choose to fly anytime up until 25 March 2017.
