Top of the Gorge Festival, Cheddar
The Top of the Gorge Festival, the Somerset festival celebrating the great outdoors atop the Cheddar Gorge, one of the UK’s most spectacular landscapes, returns for its second year.
Running from Fri 14 to Sun 16 June, the festival combines all the outdoor adventure you can handle, for all levels of ability and every member of the family, plus live music and fab food. Come for the day, the weekend, or even better, stay and glamp in one of their super cool, all terrain landpods.
What’s a landpod, I hear you ask? This is…
Only the latest innovation in luxury glamping – a cosy pod which sleeps up to five adults in two double beds and a single, and converts into a spacious living area with enough seating for nine adults around two oak tables in the day. Not that you’ll be inside much, there’s far too much going on outside.
Take the Gorge festival challenges – running, cycling, trail running and mountain biking. Climb the four route festival climbing wall. Venture into 30-metre long tunnels with four activity chambers in a mobile caving unit. Explore the nearby nature reserves with walking and wildlife experts from Cheddar Walking, Mendip Hills AONB and the Somerset Wildlife Trust.
There’s axe throwing and stuff we’ve never heard of before, like saw racing and frisbee golf. Go foraging. Discover how to make nettle crisps and bake bread on a stick on an open fire. Learn bush craft or dry stone walling. Do yoga. Listen to a story…
Meet the mind-blowing Adventureman Jamie McDonald (he’s run across America, currently running more than 73 miles a day, seven days a week on a treadmill to break a world record) ; cave diver Connor Roe (he helped save the Thai boys from the cave); Sacha Dench (who strapped herself to a paramotor to follow the 4,000-mile migration of endangered swans from Arctic Russia to the UK); long-distance cyclist World Bike Girl Ishbel Holmes and Maria her dog – and many more.
Fantastic food and drink, live bands playing across the weekend. Toast marshmallows over the campfire, and gaze up to the stars and marvel at the universe * sigh*.
When it’s time for bed, tuck yourself up in here…
Wake up refreshed and ready to do it all over again the next day – and the next. You’ve got the pod until 6pm on Sunday.
The weekend is truly action-packed, with so much to do, we can’t list it all here but you can download the full programme here.
Each landpod, which sleeps up to five adults, includes entry to the festival for the whole weekend, parking, films, music, selected workshops and all the free adventure activities. Inclusive cost £350 for the weekend. Booking details here or call 0344 249 1895.
The Top of the Gorge Festival runs from 4pm on Fri 14 June to 6pm Sun 16 June.
