A gnarled log becomes a woody lampshade, a reclaimed plank becomes a stunning bench in the skillful hands of Dan Thomas...
Dan Thomas, from Wuffles Design, is one of those clever people who can see the potential in stuff others might overlook or discard – and turn it into something beautiful.
In his skillful hands, driftwood from the beach, wood meant for the bonfire, a tree fallen in a storm and reclaimed wood from recycling yards are all transformed into unique and quirky pieces for the home and garden – a table, a lamp, a wine rack, or whatever else the size, shape and texture of the wood inspires.
Dan breathes new life into old wood by enhancing its natural beauty with complementary finishes. A natural split in the wood is held fast with bow ties and filled with resin. He adds some simply designed metal legs and a forgotten plank becomes a stunning bench.
A thick slice of tree trunk forms the top of a coffee table.
A gnarled hollow log is turned into a woody lampshade.
You can’t argue with a driftwood tower of wine.
You’ll need stools to sit on while you’re drinking the said wine…
A chunk of driftwood salvaged from the beach makes an organically shaped garden bench. I love the texture of the wood, worn smooth by the action of the waves (oh gawd, I’ve come over all poetic). I think this is my favourite, so hands off, it’s mine!
Each piece is unique and priced individually but to give you an idea, smaller items start from around £100 and tables start from around £350.
Dan also welcomes commissions. Visit him in his studio in a converted stable in Axbridge with your own piece of wood or you could ask him to source some for you. Have a chat about what you’re after and let his imagination run riot.
