Shakespeare’s Globe live in Taunton!
A unique chance to see the world famous London theatre company perform three Shakespeare plays on stage at The Brewhouse
Shakespeare’s Globe, the reconstruction of Shakespeare’s original Globe Theatre on the banks of the River Thames in London, produces world-renowned productions of the bard’s works. Now their Touring Ensemble are bringing three plays to just seven venues around the UK – and one of them is The Brewhouse in Taunton.
Each play deals with the timely theme of refuge and displacement, and will be performed as it would have been by an Elizabethan touring company, with simple sets and a small group of versatile actors. Live screenings are brilliant but nothing compares to seeing world class performances in the flesh.
Sure you know the plays inside out but just to recap:
The Comedy of Errors
Twin brothers (both named Antipholus) and estranged twin servants (both named Dromio) get separated in a shipwreck. Some 30 years later, one set of Antipholus and Dromio go to Ephesus to find the other. Cue mistaken identities, puns a plenty and comedy chaos.
Pericles, Prince of Tyre, leaves his own kingdom to escape death and marries a princess in another land. Returning home with his family, they’re separated in a storm and he arrives alone. Years later, he’s reunited with his daughter and the wife he thought was dead (awwwww).
More twins, yet another shipwreck. After being separated from her brother Sebastian, Viola disguises herself as a boy and find herself in a unusual love triangle.
